Climate Change Forum: Suara Alam 2025 – Malaysia’s Road to COP30 Belém

Kuala Lumpur, 30 September 2025 – Malaysia took another bold step in advancing climate leadership with the Climate Change Forum: Suara Alam 2025, held at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral. The forum was co-organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) and Amanah Lestari Alam (ALAM), bringing together policymakers, industry experts, academics, and community leaders to strengthen Malaysia’s climate action agenda ahead of COP30 in Belém, Brazil.

A Platform for Malaysia’s Climate Leadership

The Suara Alam 2025 Forum served as a critical dialogue platform for Malaysia and ASEAN to amplify voices, share solutions, and collaborate on sustainable development pathways. With COP30 approaching, the discussions reflected Malaysia’s growing role in shaping global climate policies and advancing the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and RMK13 agenda.

Key Highlights from Suara Alam 2025

1. Launching of the Adaptation Document

One of the forum’s major milestones was the official launch of Malaysia’s Adaptation Document, underscoring the nation’s commitment to building resilience against climate risks. This document is a guiding framework for adaptive strategies across sectors, from biodiversity conservation to community empowerment.

2. Green Supply Chains to Support RMK13

The first session focused on green supply chains, highlighting how sustainable logistics, renewable energy adoption, and low-carbon practices will support Malaysia’s 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) and national climate commitments.

3. Advancing COP30 Negotiations

Insights into the UNFCCC COP30 negotiations provided stakeholders with updates on Malaysia’s position and strategies, reinforcing the importance of regional collaboration under ASEAN to amplify collective bargaining power on the global stage.

4. Climate Finance for Development

Experts shared perspectives on the landscape of climate finance, discussing the critical role of development finance institutions in unlocking green investments, blended finance, and innovative funding models to accelerate decarbonisation projects.

5. Multi-level Action: Balancing Growth and Conservation

A panel on multi-level climate action explored the balance between economic development and environmental sustainability. Participants agreed that effective solutions must be inclusive, bridging federal, state, and community-level actions.

6. Indigenous Knowledge, AI, and Education for Biodiversity

The final sessions highlighted the role of indigenous peoples’ knowledge (IPLC) and emerging technologies such as AI in education for biodiversity and conservation. Initiatives like Blue School Malaysia showcased how education can inspire new generations to safeguard ecosystems both on land and underwater.
