Planters International Showcases Coastal Oasis Sungai Klang at IGEM 2025
Kuala Lumpur, 15–17 October 2025 — Planters International Berhad proudly participated in the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2025, the country’s largest sustainability and green-technology event.
Over three inspiring days at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Planters’ flagship initiative — Coastal Oasis: Sungai Klang — was featured at the Investors Lounge organised by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), attracting investors, financiers, and climate leaders exploring Malaysia’s next generation of nature-based investment opportunities.
Featured at MGTC’s Investors Lounge
Planters International was among a select group of project owners invited to present at the MGTC Investors Lounge, a dedicated platform that connects climate-aligned ventures with institutional and private investors. The company presented:
“Opportunity to Form a Strategic Partnership with the Largest Private Conservation Company in Malaysia.”
The presentation introduced Coastal Oasis: Sungai Klang — a RM 2.5 billion blended investment spanning over 27,000 hectares of riverine, mangrove, and coastal ecosystems. The project aims to transform Malaysia’s most iconic urban river system into a global model for climate resilience, blue-carbon restoration, and circular bioeconomy integration.
Nature-Based Innovation and Circular Bioeconomy
The Coastal Oasis project integrates conservation and industry through circular-economy solutions that convert bamboo, biomass, and dredged river waste into renewable energy, biochar and verified environmental credits.
Its proprietary Active Forest Asset Management (AFAM) system — combining geospatial, drones, LiDAR, IoT, and AI — enables real-time ecological monitoring and transparent impact verification, ensuring every hectare of restoration is traceable and reportable.
Bamboo Bioenergy and Biochar Solutions
Planters also showcased its bamboo-based green-fuel and biochar portfolio, developed under the Planters Bioenergy & Biotechnology division.
Bamboo Pellets — High-energy (4,460 kcal/kg) renewable fuel verified by TNB Research, serving as a clean alternative for industrial power generation.
Bamboo Chips — Sustainable biomass feedstock supporting gasification and pellet manufacturing.
Bamboo Biochar — A high-carbon, multi-benefit material for soil regeneration, water treatment, and verified carbon-removal credits.
All products are sustainably sourced from Planters’ conservation sites and align with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), directly supporting national decarbonisation goals.
Investment and Impact at Scale
Structured for blended climate finance, Coastal Oasis channels concessional, catalytic, and private capital into measurable conservation outcomes.
Key components include:
Blue-Carbon Restoration – Mangrove and riparian forest rehabilitation.
Biochar & Biomass Integration – Renewable alternatives for low-emission industries.
Circular Waste-to-Value Systems – River waste interception and plastics-to-fuel conversion.
Community Livelihoods & Eco-Employment – Empowering local participation in restoration.
Biodiversity and Plastic Removal Credits – Verified impact metrics aligned with TNFD and the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Listed under CFIL — Driving Malaysia’s Climate-Finance Innovation
The Coastal Oasis: Sungai Klang project is officially listed under the Climate Finance Innovation Lab (CFIL) — a flagship programme jointly established by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), and administered by Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) through the Joint Committee on Climate Change (JC3).
CFIL serves as Malaysia’s national platform for developing bankable climate-finance models that mobilise public–private–philanthropic capital towards sustainable projects, ensuring alignment with the country’s broader green-sukuk and sustainable-finance agenda.
Toward COP30 and Malaysia’s Climate Commitments
IGEM 2025 also coincided with pre-COP30 launches and dialogues, where Planters was recognised among Malaysia’s private-sector contributors to the country’s COP30 representation in Belém, Brazil (2025).
The Coastal Oasis framework was highlighted during FDG as a replicable model for integrating biodiversity restoration, waste recovery, and green-finance innovation — complementing Malaysia’s NETR and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Looking Ahead
Building on the success of IGEM 2025, Planters International will continue collaborating with MGTC and other national partners to expand investment pipelines for nature-based and circular-economy projects.
Through Coastal Oasis, Planters aims to demonstrate that conservation can be commercially viable, technologically transparent, and socially inclusive — shaping Malaysia’s path toward a bio-based, climate-resilient economy.
