Planters at the Securities Commission’s Climate Adaptation and Resilience Conference 2025
Climate Adaptation and Resilience Conference 2025, organised by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC)
Kuala Lumpur, 14 October 2025 — Planters International Berhad and its subsidiary ArboEchoes Sdn Bhd joined national leaders, financiers, and environmental experts at the Climate Adaptation and Resilience Conference 2025, organised by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC).
Themed “Bridging Science and Capital for a Climate-Safe Future,” the conference gathered key stakeholders to align scientific insights with investment action to strengthen Malaysia’s climate resilience.
The event opened with remarks by Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi, Executive Chairman of the SC.
Bridging Science, Policy, and Finance
A fireside chat featuring Professor Dr. Joy Pereira (IPCC), Laura Canas da Costa (UNEP FI), and Tan Zhai Yun (The Edge Malaysia) examined how science-based data informs climate-related investment decisions.
Subsequent panels discussed mechanisms for mobilising capital for resilience, featuring experts from Norges Bank Investment Management, Oliver Wyman, and Standard Chartered Bank.
The National Adaptation Policy Landscape session, featuring Ahmad Farid bin Mohammed (NRES), Syaiful Azmen Nordin (Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd), and Dr. Gary Theseira (CETDEM), highlighted how national frameworks such as MyNAP and WST2040 can catalyse private-sector innovation in adaptation projects — aligning with Planters’ ongoing work under the Coastal Oasis Sungai Klang initiative.
A National Push for Climate Adaptation
This followed by a keynote address from YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Acting Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability.
In his keynote, Datuk Seri Johari announced that the forthcoming National Climate Change Bill (Rang Undang-Undang Perubahan Iklim Negara — RUUPIN) will embed both mitigation and adaptation measures into law, ensuring that Malaysia’s climate response is comprehensive and enforceable.
He also shared that the tabling of the Bill will be postponed to allow for direct engagement with business entities and associations, ensuring all sectors fully understand the implications of the legislation — particularly around carbon tax and compliance obligations.
Despite this delay, he reaffirmed that it will not affect Malaysia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) commitments under the Paris Agreement.

From the Hills to the Sea: Strengthening River and Coastal Resilience
One of the day’s highlights was the feature talk by YAM Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Princess of Selangor and Environmental Advocate, titled “The Ocean Interceptor: What If the Fight Against Climate Change Began Not in the Ocean, but in Our Rivers?”

YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Menteri Besar of Selangor, was among the attendees during the session, reflecting Selangor’s continued leadership in advancing river and coastal resilience through nature-based climate solutions.
Tengku Zatashah’s address connected river restoration and plastic interception to broader disaster mitigation and ocean health — key principles that resonate with Planters’ conservation work along the Klang River corridor.
Shared Commitment to a Climate-Safe Future
The conference concluded with technical presentations on river basin management, urban cooling, and nature-based adaptation featuring speakers from ThinkCity, PUB Singapore, Deltares, and the National Water Research Institute of Malaysia.
For Planters, the sessions reinforced the importance of aligning policy frameworks, private capital, and local implementation to deliver measurable climate resilience.
Through programmes such as the Coastal Oasis Sungai Klang and the Active Forest Asset Management (AFAM) system, Planters continues to support Malaysia’s pathway toward a climate-adaptive, nature-positive economy.
