Planters International Explores Emerging Technologies, Smart Cities and Sustainable Investment at SIBS 2026
From robotics and autonomous mobility to advanced manufacturing, urban planning and regional investment, the tenth Selangor International Business Summit offered new perspectives on innovation and sustainable development.
KUALA LUMPUR, 18 October 2026 — Planters International Berhad continued its longstanding engagement with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), attending the event's tenth edition held from 14 to 17 October 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Organised by Invest Selangor Berhad and hosted by the Selangor State Government, SIBS 2026 brought together investors, policymakers, industry leaders, technology developers and entrepreneurs under the theme The Definitive Gateway to ASEAN.
Having attended SIBS over successive years, Planters continues to regard the summit as an important platform for observing emerging technologies, understanding regional investment developments and exploring innovations relevant to its environmental and circular economy initiatives.
This year's summit presented particularly interesting developments across robotics, autonomous mobility, additive manufacturing, smart-city technologies, spatial planning and regional industrial investment.
Emerging Technologies and Autonomous Systems
Among the notable highlights was the Selangor Techsphere Summit (STS), a platform dedicated to advanced manufacturing, industrial innovation, automation and digital transformation.
Exhibits featuring robotic systems, autonomous logistics vehicles and intelligent automation demonstrated how increasingly sophisticated technologies are being introduced into practical commercial and industrial applications.
Of particular interest were quadrupedal and humanoid robotic platforms, alongside autonomous logistics solutions, including a driverless robovan showcased by Autonomous Logistic Solutions Sdn Bhd.
Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft concepts also offered a glimpse into developments in advanced air mobility.
For Planters, these technologies provide useful benchmarks for evaluating potential applications beyond their original industrial settings.
Through its Active Forest Asset Management (AFAM) platform, Planters already incorporates technologies such as LiDAR, SLAM, drones, geospatial intelligence, environmental sensors, bioacoustics and AI-supported biodiversity surveillance into its environmental management workflows.
Emerging autonomous systems may offer complementary capabilities in environmental inspections, operational logistics, remote monitoring and other specialised field applications, subject to technical suitability and operational requirements.
Advanced Manufacturing and Circular Economy Innovation
Another interesting area was additive manufacturing and industrial 3D printing.
Exhibits by technology providers, including Bambu Lab, demonstrated the growing accessibility and versatility of digital fabrication for producing customised components, functional prototypes and complex engineering parts.
These capabilities have potential relevance to the development of specialised environmental monitoring equipment, field instrumentation, sensor housings and replacement components.
For Planters, such technologies complement ongoing work in resource efficiency and circular economy development, including biomass utilisation, biochar production, composting and organic waste recovery.
The increasing convergence of digital design, manufacturing flexibility and material efficiency also highlights opportunities to reduce operational dependencies and improve equipment adaptability in field environments.
Smart Cities, Spatial Planning and Environmental Integration
The participation of Selangor's local authorities provided valuable perspectives on urban planning, infrastructure development, smart-city initiatives and environmental management.
Of particular relevance were the Rancangan Tempatan (RT) documents and spatial planning information exhibited by Majlis Bandaraya Diraja Klang (MBDK), including planning areas associated with Sungai Klang.
These materials are relevant to Planters' ongoing Coastal Oasis: Sungai Klang & Coastal Isles Eco-Restoration and Biodiversity Innovation Program.
Coastal Oasis: Sungai Klang encompasses areas administered by four local authorities. Its environmental masterplanning approach takes into consideration the respective Rancangan Tempatan, the broader Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) development framework and other applicable planning instruments.
The programme also recognises the inter-agency coordinating role of the Selangor Maritime Gateway Consultative Council (SMGCC).
This integrated approach seeks to ensure that ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation, river management and environmental monitoring complement existing land-use and development priorities, rather than being pursued as isolated landscaping initiatives.
Smart-city exhibits and community-based river stewardship programmes further reinforced the importance of integrating environmental considerations, spatial information, technology and public participation into long-term urban development.
For Planters, these connections are particularly important as environmental restoration must remain responsive to the wider development context in which it is undertaken.
Regional Investment and Industrial Development
The Selangor Investment and Industrial Park Expo (SPARK) provided further insights into industrial investment, regional development and emerging economic opportunities.
Among the exhibits explored was Invest Pahang, which highlighted industrial development, future industries, aerospace-related opportunities and investment infrastructure.
These developments are relevant to Planters' continuing exploration of sustainable biomass utilisation, ecosystem restoration and circular economy opportunities within broader regional development frameworks.
As industrial activity expands across Malaysia, environmental planning and resource management will remain important considerations in supporting sustainable economic growth.
The integration of investment, industrial development and environmental responsibility offers opportunities for solutions that deliver both economic and ecological value.
Startups and the Emerging Innovation Ecosystem
Beyond established industry participants, SIBS 2026 also offered opportunities to observe emerging technology businesses, startups and specialised solution providers.
The diversity of technologies on display reflected the increasing role of smaller innovators in developing practical solutions for automation, artificial intelligence, digital platforms, sensing technologies and engineering applications.
For Planters, this emerging innovation ecosystem is particularly relevant.
Environmental monitoring and restoration often require specialised solutions that can be adapted to challenging field conditions, rather than relying exclusively on conventional industrial equipment.
New technologies and startup-led innovations can therefore provide useful opportunities for technical evaluation, knowledge exchange and potential future collaboration.
A Wider Platform for Industry and Economic Development
SIBS 2026 also brought together complementary platforms, including the Selangor ASEAN Business Conference, Selangor Investment Forum, Selangor AI and Semiconductor Summit and Selangor International Care Expo, alongside talent development and other supporting programmes.
The broad range of participating sectors demonstrated the increasingly interconnected nature of investment, technological advancement, economic development and societal needs.
Discussions on energy management and resilience were also relevant to the wider transition towards more efficient, reliable and sustainable industrial operations.
Collectively, these platforms highlighted how innovation is increasingly being shaped by the convergence of multiple industries and disciplines.
Continuing Our Engagement with Innovation
For Planters International, participation in SIBS extends beyond discovering new products or following technological trends.
It provides an opportunity to benchmark emerging capabilities against actual operational requirements, understand developments across different industries and identify innovations that may strengthen existing environmental programmes.
Through Coastal Oasis, AFAM and its circular economy initiatives, Planters continues to pursue integrated approaches combining ecosystem conservation, scientific monitoring, technological innovation and sustainable resource utilisation.
As SIBS celebrates a decade of connecting industries, investment and innovation, Planters looks forward to maintaining its engagement with the broader business and technology ecosystem.
Ultimately, the value of innovation is measured not simply by technological advancement, but by its ability to address real-world challenges and contribute to meaningful, lasting outcomes.
