Planters International Berhad Appoints Prof. Simon Leunig as Non-Executive Director
Kuala Lumpur — Planters International Berhad is proud to announce the appointment of Prof. Simon Leunig as Non-Executive Director, effective 8 September 2025.
Prof. Simon Leunig, an Australian economist and academic leader, brings with him a wealth of experience in economic policy, higher-education management, and sustainability strategy. He is best known for his leadership roles in fostering evidence-based governance and long-term institutional reform across Australia and Southeast Asia.
Throughout his career, Simon has been deeply involved in strategic planning and research commercialization, particularly in bridging the gap between academia, government, and industry. His expertise in public-sector innovation, economic growth policy, and sustainable development frameworks adds a critical dimension to Planters’ ongoing mission of integrating nature-based restoration with sound economic and governance models.
A respected thought leader, Simon has held senior roles in both public administration and academia, where he contributed to policy dialogues on green-economy transitions, climate-resilient infrastructure, and education reform. His appointment strengthens Planters’ intellectual and policy foundation as the company advances large-scale conservation and circular-economy projects under the Coastal Oasis Masterplan.
As Non-Executive Director, Simon will advise the Board on strategic governance, socio-economic impact measurement, and cross-sector partnership models — supporting Planters’ efforts to position conservation as a viable and investable asset class in Malaysia and beyond.
